Vallejo 71.603 Soviet/Russian Su-25/39 Frogfoot Paint Set
8 Airbrush-Ready Colors for Soviet & Russian Aircraft Camouflage (1/72, 1/48, 1/32)
Painting Soviet and Russian close-air-support aircraft requires more than a simple green, brown, and blue palette. The Su-25 “Frogfoot,” Su-39, and related tactical aircraft schemes often combine sun-worn sand tones, brown camouflage, cool underside blues, grey-green surfaces, and weathered operational finishes. Vallejo 71.603 Soviet/Russian Su-25/39 Frogfoot Paint Set gives aircraft modelers a coordinated Vallejo Model Air palette designed for these Cold War and modern Russian aircraft subjects.
This set corresponds to Vallejo reference 71.603, Soviet/Russian colors Su-25/39 “Frogfoot” from 80’s to present. It includes eight Model Air colors selected for airbrushing Soviet and Russian aircraft camouflage, especially projects based around Frogfoot-style close-support aircraft, tactical schemes, faded undersides, and worn field finishes. The palette is useful for 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scale aviation builds where smooth airbrush coverage and believable color modulation matter.
Unlike a generic aircraft paint selection, Vallejo 71.603 Soviet/Russian Su-25/39 Frogfoot Paint Set combines sand, brown, grey, blue, and green tones that work together for late Cold War and Russian Federation camouflage. It gives modelers a practical starting point for sun-faded panels, desert or dry-region schemes, blue-grey undersides, tactical greens, and weathered aircraft surfaces without having to build the palette one bottle at a time.

Why This Set Works for Frogfoot Builds
- Soviet and Russian aircraft focus: Built around sand, brown, blue, grey, and green tones used across tactical aircraft schemes.
- Designed for airbrush work: The Model Air formula supports smooth coverage, thin layers, and controlled camouflage transitions.
- Useful for Su-25 and Su-39 projects: A practical palette for Frogfoot-style aircraft, late Cold War subjects, and modern Russian camouflage finishes.
- Great for weathered field finishes: The color mix helps recreate worn paint, faded panels, dusty camouflage, and operational aircraft surfaces.
- Eight coordinated colors: Gives modelers a complete starting palette instead of forcing them to select each shade separately.

Beyond the Label
Vallejo 71.603 Soviet/Russian Su-25/39 Frogfoot Paint Set is useful beyond one exact aircraft profile. The sand and brown tones can support dry-region camouflage, Afghan-era visual references, and sun-beaten tactical finishes. The blue and pale blue-grey colors help with undersides and cold modulation, while Green Grey and Sea Grey are useful for panel variation, faded camouflage areas, and subtle transitions.
For Su-25 and Su-39 builds, the set gives you a strong base for aircraft that should look rugged, used, and operational rather than factory-fresh. It can also support related Soviet/Russian aircraft projects when the model calls for similar earth tones, light blues, and grey-green camouflage.
Pro Tips from the Studio
For best results with Vallejo 71.603 Soviet/Russian Su-25/39 Frogfoot Paint Set, apply the colors over a smooth Vallejo primer surface and build the camouflage in thin, controlled layers. Soviet and Russian tactical schemes often look more convincing when the colors vary slightly across panels instead of appearing as flat, uniform blocks.
Use Sand Yellow, UK Light Stone, and 6K Russian Brown for dry, sun-worn camouflage areas. Use Pale Blue Grey, Sky Blue, and Russian AF Light Blue for underside work and cool modulation. Green Grey and Sea Grey can help soften transitions and add a more operational look to panels, pylons, and surface details.
If you are working in a smaller scale, keep the contrast controlled so the camouflage does not overpower fine details. For larger aircraft, use subtle fading, panel variation, and thin post-shading to create a more realistic service-worn finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What scales is this paint set designed for?
The Vallejo 71.603 set works for 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scale Su-25 and Su-39 builds. The Model Air formula is airbrush-ready at those scales without additional thinning.
Are all 8 colors airbrush-ready straight from the bottle?
Yes. Vallejo Model Air is pre-thinned for airbrush use. Start at 15–20 PSI and adjust from there for smooth coverage and controlled camouflage work.
Does this set support both Su-25 and Su-39 aircraft?
Yes. The color selection supports both the Su-25 Frogfoot and Su-39 variant, including Cold War and modern Russian Federation camouflage schemes.
Can these colors be brush painted?
They can be brush painted, but Vallejo Model Air is formulated specifically for airbrush application. Vallejo Model Color alternatives are often preferred for dedicated brush work.
Why buy the complete set instead of individual bottles?
The set provides coordinated colors already selected for Soviet and Russian tactical aircraft schemes, helping modelers avoid mismatched camouflage tones while saving time during paint selection.
