PROTOTYPE HISTORY
On a clear night when you look up at the sky you may be able to see what looks like a twinkling star, but it not be a star at all, it may be the international space station. The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest man-made object in space.
Thirty years ago it seemed impossible, but the space agencies from 5 countries, NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and CSA (Canada)in sent the ISS into space. The first residents boarded the ISS in 2000.
The ISS became a symbol of international cooperation, and the end of the Cold War.
The ISS consists of 14 modules and weighs about 450 tons. It revolves around the Earth at an altitude of 340 kilometers, orbiting the planet 16 times earth day.
The ISS structure and modules belong to NASA, the European Space Agency, Japan, Brazil, Canada and the Russian Federation. These countries work together to research and gather information for space exploration.
The ISS represents mankind’s most advanced technology. Research in outer space opens up the prospect for the future space travel, and even the potential of colonizing other planets. The significance of the space station cannot be overestimated. The ISS is an impressive engineering accomplishment. Each of the architects, engineers, designers and mechanics involved in its creation are considered to be the best at their job.
The designers of Metal Time wanted to pay tribute to the engineering genius to the creators of the artificial celestial body, by creating the model, the Astronauts Lodge.
Features
The Astronauts Lodge is made up of many different parts. These are two-dimensional solar panels, and three-dimensional modules and blocks, on a massive platform. To assemble it you will need patience, and it would benefit you to study the structure of the real ISS. Knowing the history, and purpose of each module, will add to the enjoyment of building the model.
Astronauts Lodge is equipped with an electric motor that allows the structure to rotate on its own axis. You can also manually adjust the tilt angle of the station to the surface where it is located.
The time spent on assembling the model will pay off when your model is a beautiful representation of the real ISS.
